Waco Tribune-Herald: Perry and Pilgrim
July 31, 2008 | Filed Under Bo Pilgrim, Pilgrims Pride, Rick Perry |

The following is an editorial published by the Waco Tribune-Herald:
“Good government.”
That’s what a spokesperson for Gov. Rick Perry said poultry magnate Lonnie “Bo” Pilgrim was interested in when he gave $100,000 to a group chaired by Perry. More likely, this was about Bo Pilgrim.
The gift came six days after a meeting in which the poultry magnate appealed to Perry to oppose federal ethanol standards. Pilgrim says the standards drive up the price of corn and raising poultry. Perry complied.
The money went to the Republican Governor’s Association, which routinely rewards its members with campaign stash.
Good government, or good old government graft?
Pilgrim is shameless when it comes to buying the good graces of Texas lawmakers. In the 1980s, he handed out $10,000 checks on the floor of the Texas Senate when legislation pertaining to his industry was considered.
Good government? Bo’s just talking turkey.
